Mental Health First Aid Guidelines Project for Eating Disorders

We would like to invite you to be an expert panel member for our research project aimed at developing guidelines for the provision of mental health first aid to someone who is suspected to be experiencing, or developing, an eating disorder. Mental health first aid is the help given by a member of the public to a person who is developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. It is not a substitute for professional help, but rather, is the initial help or first response, given before a person gets to professional help. Attached is an information sheet outlining our project.

People who are being invited to become panel members are considered to have an expert level of knowledge about eating disorders through their experience as either a clinician, a carer, or a consumer. Given your experience and knowledge as a carer we would really appreciate your help with what we believe to be an extremely important and worthwhile project. Once established, these guidelines will empower members of the public to provide crucial and appropriate support to family, friends or loved ones who are believed to be experiencing or developing an eating disorder.

Thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely,
Laura

Dear Dr. Irina Webster,

Many thanks for agreeing to participate in our research! We would be honoured and delighted to have your input as a clinician.

We would also be delighted to have your husband William contribute as a carer. In order to register you both, I need one email address each, to which I can send a link to an online survey to (if it is this one you are using, that is fine). I need two email addresses because if you use the same one, the online survey software will think that you are the one person, and can’t register two independent set of results from the one email address.

And the following details please in case email contact becomes difficult:

A postal address

A phone contact number

Once we have received these details, we will be able to register you as a participant. The survey will be available online in the coming weeks. You will receive an email with a link to the survey software, which you can use to record your answers.

I look forward to working with you both

Kind regards,

Laura
